The 2018 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie is a big, beef-scented Syrah matured entirely in new French oak. Sourced from Les Grandes Vignes (80%) and Les Rocoules (20%), it’s dark fruited and intense, loaded with notes of cassis, black olives and crushed stone—the oak barely registers, while the finish boasts refreshing notes of licorice. Full-bodied and firmly structured, this wine—which is reminiscent of the excellent 2015—should easily last two decades.
